The View gathered around the Hot Topics table this morning with an energy of hopefulness despite the presidential victory of Donald Trump. While the show has spent the last few months criticizing Trump’s antics and throwing its support behind Vice President Kamala Harris, the ladies tried their best to stay optimistic as they analyzed the conservative wave that secured the presidential election for Trump.

However, not everyone was maintaining a hopeful outlook for the future. Sunny Hostin cast a rather bleak look at what the next four years could bring, confessing to her co-hosts that she was “profoundly disturbed” by Trump’s victory.

“In 2016, we didn’t know what we would get from a Trump administration, but we know now,” Hostin began. “We know now that he will have almost unfettered power, and so I worry, not about myself, actually. I don’t worry about my station in life. I worry about the working class. I worry about my mother, a retired teacher. I worry about our elderly and their social security and their medicare. I worry about my children’s future, especially my daughter, who now has less rights than I have.”

Hostin, being the show’s legal expert and a former prosecutor herself, also noted that the 14th amendment didn’t stop Trump — a convicted felon who Hostin said “participated in an insurrection” — from clinching the presidency.

“I think that going forward, the convicted felon box on employment applications better be taken off, because if you can be the president of the United States, then you should not be prevented from employment in this country,” she proclaimed.

The co-host also said she feared for the country’s healthcare system and worried Trump would increase the national debt by trillions. She continued, “I’m worried about mass deportation and internment camps, and I’m also worried about Elon Musk warning Americans to prepare for temporary hardship.”

Admitting she was both “surprised” and “not surprised” by Trump’s win, Hostin said she had been “so hopeful” America would elect Harris, “a mixed-race woman married to a Jewish guy.” The co-host said she thought Trump’s win actually “had nothing to do with policy.” Instead, she said, it was “a referendum of cultural resentment in this country.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
