While Alyssa Farah Griffin is not a fan of Donald Trump, she understands why Time magazine chose him as their 2024 “Person of the Year.”
On this morning’s episode of The View, the co-hosts weighed in on the publication’s controversial decision — which came one year after they crowned Taylor Swift their “Person of the Year” in 2023.
“I didn’t have super strong feelings on this just because now that the Eras Tour is over, it did kind of feel like Donald Trump would be Time ‘Person of the Year,'” Griffin, who previously worked for Trump’s administration before resigning in 2020, said.
The Republican co-host asked the other ladies to think about it from a different perspective.
“He basically left in disgrace after Jan. 6, was kind of exiled down to Mar-a-Lago for two years, and came back as the leader of the Republican Party, swept the GOP primary, goes on to win the presidential race after surviving two assassination attempts,” she explained.
“I don’t like the man, I didn’t vote for the man,” Griffin added. “But he’s the most powerful force in American culture and politics right now.”
Ana Navarro, on the other hand, pointed out some other controversial figures who have been named Time’s “Person of the Year.”
“It’s not always been great people who have been on the cover of Time, right?” she said. “It’s been people like Joseph Stalin and Adolph Hitler and [Nikita] Khrushchev and [Ruhollah] Khomeini. So, he’s in that kind of company.”

Trump celebrated his new title at the New York Stock Exchange, where he once again promised to bring down the cost of living, cut taxes and end inflation. Meanwhile, Griffin would’ve rather seen him explain how he plans to do all of those things.
“He was smart to talk about what voters cared about on the campaign trail, so the cost of living, grocery prices, gas prices, and so on. I’m really curious to hear what the actual plan is to address those,” she said, while Sunny Hostin cheekily added, “He doesn’t have a plan, he has concepts of a plan.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
