Whoopi Goldberg warned that if Donald Trump is granted total immunity, it could actually benefit his 2024 rival, President Joe Biden.
During this morning’s discussion on The View about the Supreme Court’s decision to hear Trump’s immunity claim that presidents are protected from prosecution while in office, Goldberg hinted that Trump may not be fully thinking this whole thing through.
Noting that the court’s decision has “halted proceedings in the election interference case against him,” Goldberg said the choice to hear Trump’s case is also “getting mixed reviews” in D.C.
After playing clips of both Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Adam Schiff reacting to the Supreme Court news, Goldberg reminded viewers that the court “won’t hear oral arguments until the end of April.”
She then posed one possible outcome of the case with a cheeky smile.
“Let’s look at a scenario where the Supreme Court says, ‘Yes, he has all those rights. He is immune from everything.’ You know what Joe Biden could do since he is presently president?” she asked.
When Joy Behar took the bait, asking, “What?” Goldberg let out a low “Ooooh,” and revealed, “He could throw every Republican in jail. I mean, he could.”
When the audience began to applaud, Goldberg held up a finger and told them, “No, no, this is not a good thing! What this means is, he could do anything. He could dismiss everybody’s debt. There’s a whole bunch of great stuff that could happen, but let’s really look at what this means.”

Goldberg technically isn’t wrong here, however dramatic her example may be. As Axios reports, “Trump’s theory would essentially put presidents above the law.”
Trump’s lawyers are arguing that the one-term POTUS should be immune from prosecution, claiming that future presidents could otherwise “face a barrage of politically motivated criminal charges as soon as they leave office,” per Axios.
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
