Whoopi Goldberg committed a major faux pas on this morning’s episode of The View when she grilled co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin about being pregnant. Goldberg stopped herself mid-sentence to ask Griffin if she was expecting, much to the surprise — and apparent discomfort — of the conservative commentator.
The shocking moment took place during a conversation about the future of the Republican party and Mitt Romney’s choice not to run for reelection.
“The toughest thing for me has been to watch the disregard for people,” Goldberg said, referring to the “rot” that she said has always been present in our country.
Without warning, she then completely switched topics, looking across the table and bluntly asking Griffin, “Are you pregnant?”
Griffin audibly gasped and exclaimed, “No! Oh my god,” as Joy Behar asked, “What made you say that?”
The rest of the panel was just as taken aback as Griffin, who called out Goldberg for her question. Gesturing at the studio audience, Griffin added, “You can’t say that when my mother-in-law is here, who’s been dying for me to get pregnant.”
She then asked, “Why, do I look pregnant?” and Goldberg immediately replied, “Yes, I just got a vibe.”
Goldberg then apologized, telling her co-host, “I’m so sorry,” but Sunny Hostin cut her off to excitedly ask, “Can we take bets? Can we take bets at the table?”

Griffin shut down any further speculation, firmly but politely telling the panel, “I’m very open to being pregnant soon. I am not blessed to be pregnant yet. My husband and I are thinking about it.”
Goldberg told Griffin, “Forgive me,” but still insisted, “I see a glow,” and Griffin was a good sport, replying, “I will take it!” She then told the panel she’ll take a pregnancy test at home, “just to be sure.”
Sara Haines joined in on the fun too, joking that Griffin should name her baby Whoopi, which didn’t exactly earn Goldberg’s enthusiastic approval.
“Yeah, don’t do that to the baby,” she dryly replied.
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
