It was a rare sight for Americans to see all of the living presidents in one room together for Jimmy Carter‘s funeral yesterday (Jan. 9), but Sunny Hostin was zeroed in on one thing in particular: an interaction between Barack Obama and Donald Trump. On this morning’s episode of The View, Hostin pondered how the two could have possibly shared such a friendly moment after they were seen laughing together at the ceremony.

After all, Trump and Obama don’t exactly have a warm and fuzzy track record considering Trump repeatedly questioned Obama’s citizenship during his presidency and demanded to see his birth certificate, among other things.

“I am very curious about what Donald Trump could have possibly said to make President Obama smile,” Hostin said on today’s show. “I don’t know if it was a ‘That was dumb’ smile, or if it was something that he was truly engaged by.”

As a clip of the moment between the two presidents played during The View broadcast, Hostin said, “See that smile, see that smile? So I’m reading shady stuff into it, but I was entertained by it.”

Ana Navarro appeared to agree while praising Obama for his manners.

“Somebody give Barack Obama a Best Actor Oscar right now,” she proclaimed. “The guy is classy and they’re at a funeral, right?”

Trump offered his own explanation for the chummy moment with Obama while speaking to NBC News yesterday. The president elect admitted, “I didn’t realize how friendly it looked.”

He continued, “I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other.’ And we probably do. We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don’t know. We just got along. But I got along with just about everybody.”

As for Obama, his adviser did not respond to a request for comment from NBC by time of publication.
