Sunny Hostin is taking shots at NBC. The View co-host came after the network on this morning’s episode during a discussion about their recent hiring of Ronna McDaniel, former Republican National Committee chair.

McDaniel, who was hired by NBC as a paid contributor, has already stirred up plenty of controversy on the network after just one appearance on Meet the Press, in which she was interviewed by Kristen Welker in a chat that was scheduled before she was hired, per CNN.

Shortly after the interview, NBC chief political analyst Chuck Todd ripped his own network over McDaniel’s hiring, saying, in part, “a lot of journalists at NBC News are uncomfortable with this.”

Hostin followed suit on The View today, joining Todd in calling out NBC over their latest hire. While Todd had pointed to McDaniel’s problematic denial of the 2020 presidential election, Hostin recalled the “other sketchy things” McDaniel was “a direct part” of.

“To pay a woman like that $300,000 is obscene,” Hostin said, referring to McDaniel’s NBC deal. “Let’s remember that she was the person involved in the 2020 phone call to pressure Michigan county officials to not certify the vote from the Detroit area in particular.”

Pointing out that Detroit is 77.8% Black, Hostin continued, “She was involved in actively suppressing — or attempting to suppress — the Black vote.”

“She also … said, while she was being interviewed by Kristen Welker, and I think there could have been more pushback, she said, ‘But there were problems with the vote.’ So she is still pushing the same exact narrative,” Hostin added. “She is being rewarded for, basically, trying to take away the votes of Americans, and I think it’s a despicable decision.”

She then mentioned a discussion on this morning’s Morning Joe between co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, in which they called McDaniel an “anti-democracy election denier” and said they hoped NBC would “reconsider its decision” to hire her, per The Hill.

Hostin told the panel, “I hope they do as well.”

For their part, NBC has framed McDaniel’s hiring as a way to showcase different political views on the network. According to Axios, executives see McDaniel as “one voice among dozens of contributors,” and believe NBC “can’t ignore the views of a significant part of the country.”

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
