The View is standing by Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer after she came under fire for meeting with President Donald Trump at the White House.
Whitmer is being attacked by her fellow Democrats after she took a meeting with the president on Wednesday (April 9) to discuss issues affecting her state, and was pulled into the Oval Office to watch as Trump signed executive orders. Her talk with Trump is notable not only because she’s a Democrat, but also because Trump previously slammed her with rude public nicknames like “Gretchen ‘Half’ Whitmer.”
“Maybe he doesn’t remember that he didn’t care for her,” Whoopi Goldberg suggested on this morning’s show, while wondering if Trump is “having some sort of crisis.”
As for Sunny Hostin, she said she thought it was important for Whitmer to meet with the president despite the pushback she got from her own party.
“I know that she’s getting a lot of flack from it, but as the governor of the great state of Michigan, she has an absolute obligation, I think, to show up there, do business for the people of her state,” Hostin said.
She the pointed out, “Her spokesperson said that while she was at the White House to meet with President Trump about Michigan matters, she was ‘surprised to have been pulled into the Oval Office for the executive order signing and that her presence is not an endorsement of the actions taken.'”

However, Hostin suspected Trump had ulterior motives in taking a meeting with the Michigan politician.
“I think she just got used and played,” Hostin said. “She clearly looked uncomfortable. He tricked her, and he’s a trickster, he’s a fraudster.”
As for Ana Navarro, she agreed with Hostin, but said she’d only seen one other person look so distraught in Trump’s Oval Office: “You’re right. She looks very unhappy. I haven’t seen anybody that unhappy in the Oval Office since Marco Rubio was sinking into that sofa during the Zelenskyy meeting.”
