The View is backing Vice President Kamala Harris after her opponent Donald Trump called her “dumb” at a campaign event last night (Sept. 23) in Pennsylvania.
Trump, whom Whoopi Goldberg accused of spewing “racist, misogynistic crap,” called Harris “a very dumb person” at yesterday’s event, and the Hot Topics table wasn’t going to let it slide.
Sunny Hostin, in particular, came at Trump with some biting criticism. When she addressed the panel, Hostin said the “female vote” is “the albatross” around Trump’s neck.
“He has problems getting women to vote for him, and the framing of his attacks are important,” Hostin said. “When he attacked Hillary Clinton, a female opponent, he called her unstable, he said that she lacked judgment, temperament and moral character.
“But when he attacks Vice President Harris, he attacks her intelligence,” Hostin continued. “He says she has a low IQ, he says she’s dumb and that she lacks mental capacity, notwithstanding the fact that Black women are the most educated demographic in the country.”
Hostin then accused Trump of using “a racist trope” against a “successful Black woman” like Harris, explaining, “This trope goes back to studies that were done to show that Black people were somehow less intelligent than white people to enforce the subjugation of another human being. The notion that Black people weren’t smart and they deserved to be treated as less.”

Telling the audience, “It’s something that we really shouldn’t fall for,” Hostin then pointed to a passage from the 2020 memoir Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man. The book, which was released by Trump’s niece Mary, includes an accusation of the former president cheating his way into the prestigious University of Pennsylvania, where he later graduated from Wharton Business School.
“She says Trump paid somebody to take the SAT in his place to help him get into Penn, so who’s the dumb one?” Hostin asked with a pointed look.
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
