The View took an unexpected turn this morning when ABC News reporter Matt Gutman had to cut his segment with the co-hosts short as he reported live from Israel.

Gutman, who was joining The View from the city of Sderot — where Hamas attacked on early Saturday (Oct. 7) morning — was just minutes into his interview with the Hot Topics table when he was warned of a “security incident” and escorted from the area where he had been filming.

“Matt, go do what you’ve got to do,” Whoopi Goldberg told him as he continued to speak with The View co-hosts while quickly moving to a nearby car.

“We’re OK,” he assured her, before pointing to a line of armored Jeeps behind him, which were heading toward a conflict zone.

He added, “They do not have control of the situation around here. It’s believed there are still militants lurking around,” and soon ended his segment by telling the panel, “Given what’s going on, I think we’re gonna hop in the car.”

Sara Haines told him, “Be careful, Matt” as Goldberg instructed, “Get in the car, Matt,” and the camera returned to The View studio, with Gutman’s coverage suddenly over and Goldberg unsure how to proceed.

“Well. That’s what happens when it’s live and you’re in the middle of it,” she told the audience, as Joy Behar could be heard exclaiming, “Oh my god.”

Goldberg continued, “We’ve got our fingers crossed that he’s safe, he’s gonna remain safe and that, uh, we will come back and—” but she was interrupted by a producer, who told her she and her co-hosts still had time left in the segment.

With that, Alyssa Farah Griffin decried the “horrific” and “evil” conflict taking place in the region and passionately called to “get the hell rid of Hamas,” while Goldberg decried to “horror” of terrorism, pointing to “the innocent people paying the price.”

When The View returned from commercial break, they were able to bring back Gutman, who confirmed that he was safe and had moved to a new area.

“We’re OK where we are right now,” he shared.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC. Watch Gutman’s intense interview in the video above.
