Joy Behar is standing up for Sarah McBride as the Representative-Elect continues to be targeted by Rep. Nancy Mace over her gender identity. As The View welcomed House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries onto today’s show, the conversation inevtiably turned to Mace’s one-sided war against McBride, which the panel discussed earlier this week.
Mace has introduced a bill that would ban trans women from using restrooms on Capitol Hill that align with their gender identity. Today, co-host Sara Haines asked Jeffries about his take on the bill and on Mace’s campaign, which has only intensified in recent days, with the Congresswoman even tweeting 326 times within a 72-hour period, as Haines pointed out.
“This is a trolling bully, just to be clear. There’s really no two sides to that part,” Haines said, before asking Jeffries, “Why do you think Mace is picking this fight, and do you have any recourse to stop it?”
The House Minority Leader replied, “Nancy Mace clearly needs an intervention in terms of the fact that she’s chosen this fight at this moment, when there are so many issues that the American people want us to work together on, deal with, to improve their lives and deliver real results.”
He then praised how McBride has handled the attack “with grace and strength and perspective,” while prioritizing her work for the people of Delaware. He added, “She’s gonna proceed being an incredibly effective member of Congress.”
Jeffries also told the table he and his colleagues will defend McBride and “make clear” that she “will be treated with dignity and respect.”

Ana Navarro then told Jeffries, “Every Congressperson has a bathroom in their office, so she’s got a bathroom she can use in her office, and I’m sure she can use your bathroom and the bathroom of every Democrat and every person who’s not a bigot in the United States Congress!”
When Behar chimed in, she referenced the bathrooms at The View‘s new Season 27 studio.
“We have bathrooms here, in this building it just says ‘All Genders,'” she said. “Why can’t they just do that everywhere?”
Sunny Hostin replied, “Well, they should,” as Jeffries clarified that all-gender restrooms are available in “many of the Capitol office buildings,” but “not necessarily in the Capitol itself.”
Behar, seemingly not too impressed, simply responded, “Renovate.”
The View airs weekdays at 11/10c ABC.
