Sunny Hostin is a fixture on daytime TV, but The View co-host once traded in her Hot Topics chair for a Jeopardy buzzer when she competed on the beloved game show back in 2016. Hostin, who ultimately lost the game, was reminded of her tricky stint on Jeopardy when host Ken Jennings dropped by The View today.

While chatting with Jennings on today’s show about his time behind the lectern, Hostin couldn’t escape her own Jeopardy past — especially once The View helpfully played some footage of her time squaring off against Al Franken and View co-host Ana Navarro.

“I have a special appreciation for the show because I know how difficult it is to be a contestant,” Hostin told Jennings as Joy Behar quipped, “Get the violins out!”

When Jennings asked to see the clip of Hostin’s episode, The View obliged, showing a brief video of the co-host growing increasingly annoyed as she tried to buzz in to answer questions.

“It’s the buzzer, it’s the buzzer!” she protested to the Hot Topics table, while Alyssa Farah Griffin said she could see “rage” on Hostin’s face and Sara Haines noticed that one of Hostin’s fellow contestants on Jeopardy was their friend and co-host, Navarro.

“You’re not having a good time,” Jennings deadpanned as Hostin laughed out loud, adding, “Thanks, The View, I didn’t even know you had that part of the clip,” before reiterating, “I know how hard [Jeopardy] is.”

As she insisted, “The buzzer screws you,” even Jennings had to agree, noting, “the buzzer is mean.”

Neither Hostin nor Navarro won Jeopardy. Instead, Franken emerged the victor after he amassed a lead so large that he only wagered $5 in Final Jeopardy, per Mediaite.

Still, she may be onto something with her buzzer blame. Hasan Minhaj also complained about the faulty Jeopardy contraption, telling Jimmy Fallon in November that his Celebrity Jeopardy buzzer was “janky” and “messed up.”
