The View straying away from its typical Halloween shenanigans was the cruelest trick — but, fortunately, viewers were still treated with one annual segment that once again left everyone feeling a little confused.
Every year, The View’s wardrobe supervisor Ashley Alderfer-Kaufman joins the co-hosts onstage to show off a selection of kids’ costumes inspired by this year’s Hot Topics. With the election just around the corner, it’s no surprise that some of these costumes were political.
One child dressed as Kamala Harris wearing a shirt that said Charlie XCX’s iconic “Kamala is brat” tweet from over the summer. The costume was also surrounded by props inspired by some of Harris’ most famous memes, including a coconut tree and a Venn diagram.
But that wasn’t the only election-focused costume these children wore. Another kid dressed as Donald Trump hawking his bizarre merch from under his trench coat, while a few others strutted out as childless cat ladies, referencing a controversial comment Trump’s running mate J.D. Vance made.
While some fans thought the childless cat lady costume was “priceless,” others were not on board with the Trump garb.
“Sorry, but I just can’t do the Trump Halloween costume. That’s like dressing up as Hitler with Auschwitz victims under his coat,” one wrote on X. “It’s just unacceptable in America.”
Another added, “So wait white supremacists and convicted scammers are Halloween costumes now?”

Referencing another kid’s Anna Delvey on Dancing with the Stars costume, someone else joked, “The little Anna Delvey #DWTS costume had an ankle monitor, the Trump costume needs one too!” Meanwhile, another shocked fan added, “Then they have a costume that this little girl [is] wearing an ankle monitor?! WHAT?!”
Despite the confusion, it was nice that The View still decided to incorporate some Halloween festivities in today’s episode — especially given their plan to skip it altogether amid their ongoing election coverage.
Here’s hoping the co-hosts will dress up next year!
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
