Princess Diana got a kick out of Meg Ryan‘s fake orgasm in When Harry Met Sally, according to star Billy Crystal.
In honor of the rom-com’s 35th anniversary, Crystal remembered attending the London premiere with Ryan and Princess Diana on this morning’s episode of The View.
“[Princess Diana] was unbelievable,” Crystal told the co-hosts, noting that she was seated between him and Ryan for the movie. “We sit down together on the balcony in the theater. And then trumpets are blaring as we walk in, which happens at every movie theater.”
According to Crystal, things got a little awkward in the theater when Ryan’s infamous deli scene happened.
“The whole audience below us is now looking back to see how the princess is gonna react to Meg faking the orgasm,” he said, referring to the scene where Ryan’s Sally schools Crystal’s Harry on a woman’s ability to fake a climax while seated in the middle of a packed deli.
Fortunately, Princess Diana had a sense of humor. After all, there’s a reason she was known as the People’s Princess!
“She starts laughing. A big laugh,” Crystal recalled. “It’s the kind of laugh that if we were dating, I wouldn’t see her again. She’s beautiful, but the laugh!”
He concluded, “It was a spectacular evening and [it was] so great to meet her.”

Not everyone loves the iconic scene as much as Princess Diana did. Ryan previously opened up about the effect it has had on her children, Daisy True Ryan and Jack Quaid.
“My son just called me this morning and he’s in New York staying at a hotel that’s right across the street from Katz’s Deli,” Ryan told Interview magazine in September 2023. “They were like, ‘Mom, this is a very unique embarrassment.'”
Quaid had also told his mom, “You know you can go into that deli and there’s an arrow pointing down to the table where you shot that scene.”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
