These attacks on our brave men and women in blue have to stop (“Attacks on cops up 63% since ’19,” June 1).
Members of the New York Police Department have one purpose: To serve and protect men, women and children in our community.
Evildoers who commit such horrific acts against our finest need to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

When I was growing up, I was taught to have the utmost respect for police officers.
Back then, if anyone was stupid enough to lay their hands on a police officer, they would’ve wished they’d never been born.
Due to the liberal lawmakers in Albany and on the City Council, the police are no longer respected by the public, nor are they feared by criminals.
What happened to nightsticks and the days of the Tactical Patrol Force?
If you’re too young to remember them, you’ll probably disagree with me.

The problem is that police officers are petrified of being arrested for use of force.

The disrespect society shows to NYPD officers on the street today would have never been tolerated many years ago.
There was an understanding that certain behavior would result in an unpleasant outcome for those foolish enough to cross the line.
Officers today are playing on a different field, with the deck stacked against them.
I give credit to those still willing to put their lives and liberty on the line to serve and protect the citizens of a city that continually supports the anti-police movement.

This has to stop: Assaulting a cop should result in a minimum of 25 years in jail with no chance of getting out for good behavior.
The insane politicians who handcuff the police and courts should be voted out of office.
Let’s start with the main culprit, Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, then work our way down the City Council.
If police officers aren’t safe, what does that say about the rest of us?
What a sad state of affairs.

This unsettling tariff drama is hurting everyday consumer and small businesses (“Snatching ‘defeat’ from jaws of victory,” Charles Gasparino, May 30).
They do not have the luxury and patience of riding out this turbulence, since they were the ones deeply affected by the prior administration’s denial of the effects of inflation.
High prices were acknowledged by the Democrats only after President Trump took office, as if they started on his watch.
Now we have Trump seeking to correct the trade imbalances all at once.
He is correct in addressing this, but must be a bit more deliberate because of the effects on small businesses and consumers.
The winning that he always talks about cannot come soon enough.

Trump is not going to budge with his tariff demands.
He is disregarding the economists warning that this could eventually lead to inflation and higher costs.
Even Charlie Gasparino wishes Trump would take the win and not pursue higher tariffs that could easily put stress on Wall Street and less money in our pockets.
Yet Trump seems to be staying the course.
Thus far, his presidency has been topsy-turvy at best.
