The Summer I Turned Pretty is getting down to the wire, and in Season 3, Episode 7, the stakes have never been higher.

In addition to another handful of delicious details carefully laid by creator Jenny Han, the seventh episode of the third and final season, “Last Hurrah,” featured Conrad’s (Christopher Briney) highly-anticipated love confession to Belly (Lola Tung).

Spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Episode 7 ahead.

With days left until the wedding, Belly and Jeremiah’s (Gavin Casalegno) friends and family head to Cousins to get the celebrations started. Conrad takes Jere and his boys on a bachelor party bar crawl, while Taylor (Rain Spencer) takes Belly, Anika (Sofia Bryant), and Denise (Isabella Briggs) into town for an epic Girls Night Out. But after a mix of alcohol and surprising revelations — including Belly learning Conrad was the one who convinced her mom to come around on the wedding, and Conrad learning about Jere’s Cabo hookup — the night ends with Conrad pouring his heart out to Belly on the beach.

Since The Summer I Turned Pretty is such a thoughtfully-crafted love letter to fans, each week until its September 17 finale, Decider will be taking a closer look at each episode and highlighting five moments that deserve to be put under the microscope. Whether they’re blink-and-miss-it details, brilliant Easter eggs, or major scenes that need to be talked through in greater depth, we’re here to obsess over, hypothesize, and dissect the series alongside you. We’re also shouting out a standout needle drop each episode, since the show’s soundtrack absolutely slaps.

From an “electric jolt,” foreshadowing flowers, a curious clock in the glass unicorn flashback, a repeat needle drop, a noteworthy book change, and more, here are five things you may have missed in The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3, Episode 7, “Last Hurrah.”

  1. Belly and Conrad on 'TSITP'

With several July 4 Almost Kiss callbacks in Season 3 ( the return of “False God,” Belly’s bathing suit, another fireworks scene, etc), we’ve been thinking a lot about the Season 2, Episode 1 flashback that showed Belly and Conrad on the phone together. Belly tells him, “I can’t imagine marrying somebody who didn’t give me fireworks,” which is why the July 4 parallels are such a big deal. But in Season 3, Episode 7, we get another reference to that pivotal Season 2 scene. For those who need a reminder, the full line Belly says to Conrad is, “I can’t imagine marrying somebody who didn’t give me fireworks, like electric jolts every time i saw them.” And in 307, as Conrad is trying to fix a light before guests arrive, Belly runs to his aid after he literally gets an electric jolt! OK Jenny! We see you, girl!

  2. Susannah and Conrad arranging flowers on 'TSITP'

In addition to fixing the lights before guests arrive, Conrad cuts some hydrangeas from his mom’s garden and arranges them in a vase, just like Susannah used to do before company came. Similarities between the two were apparent throughout the series, but in Season 3, as Conrad continues to mature, it’s incredibly easy and heartwarming to see such special pieces of Susannah within him. Speaking of flowers, in Season 3, Episode 6 we pointed out that a single red flower was growing under the blue hydrangea bush out front, and in Episode 307, there are even more red flowers! Here’s why that’s important!

Pretty much every Season 3 episode has inspired chats about color symbolism, the “Daylight” x “Red” mashup, and how “missing him was blue like I’ve never known” and “loving him was red.” The color contrast — be it between red or blue or red and gold — regularly stresses Belly’s torn emotions between Fisher brothers. And since Conrad is often associated with red post-S3 trailer, it’s easy to believe those red flowers represent Belly’s lingering feelings for Conrad and growing doubt about marrying Jere. It’s a small sign of hope that their flame has yet to be extinguished, but it’s growing bigger each week.

  3. Two clocks in 'TSITP'
    Photo: Prime Video

There are several scenes that potentially foreshadow Bonrad endgame in Episode 307. So let’s break them down! On the simpler end of the spectrum, we have Conrad telling Belly that he talked to her mom because he wants her to have everything she pictured on her wedding day. Later in the episode, when crying to Taylor, Belly admits she never pictured the wedding she and Jere are planning, she “only ever pictured Conrad.” GULP!

In case that was too obvious, let’s kick things up a notch by pointing out mindblowingly intricate, Taylor Swift-level Easter egg that will have you low-key questioning your sanity. When Belly flashes back to the day she parted ways from the boys at the mall to browse admire her beloved glass unicorn (the one Conrad eventually bought for her birthday), he specifically instructs her to meet up with them in an hour. When Belly enters the glass blowing shop, the clocks clearly read 3:05 p.m. And while that might not seem significant, Episode 305 featured the peach scene that signified a major shift in Belly’s feelings for Conrad. PLUS, 3+5=8, and what does 8 look like? AN INFINITY SIGN! *SCREAMS!*

To take things a step further, fans think that Belly and Conrad’s endgame could be solidified in Episode 8 next week, should her and Jere call off their wedding. And when I told my colleague Meghan about this theory, she clocked that the time Belly finally leaves the glassblower shop (too late, might we add!) is 5:20 p.m. 5+2 = 7. It’s currently EPISODE 7, aka the episode where Belly tells Conrad his confession is too late!? Help?!

  4. Belly and Conrad on 'TSITP'
    Photo: Prime Video

Episode 306 gave us the return of Season 1’s “False God,” and Episode 307 is giving the return of Season 1’s “when the party’s over” to make another crucial, albeit heartbreaking Belly and Conrad parallel. In Episode 307, James Blake’s version of the song plays as Belly walks away from a teary-eyed Conrad post-confession and eventually lets herself break down. But in Season 1, Episode 6, “Summer Tides,” Billie Eilish’s version of the song played as Belly met Conrad out on the dock. There, he gave her the infinity necklace back and said, “I don’t want to lose you.” So just to recap: In both episodes, Taylor is sleeping in Belly’s room, Conrad is putting himself out here and offering Belly their own personal infinity, and Belly tells him “It’s too late.” 911? I need an ambulance!

  5. Conrad and Belly on 'TSITP'
    Photo: Prime Video

When breaking down Conrad’s confession to Belly, Decider noted that in the book, Belly returned to the house, got into bed with Jere, and said, “I love you ” to his back. Whereas in the series, Belly crawls into bed with Taylor, cries, and knocks on Jere’s wall as she’s done so many times before. Unlike those other times, she’s met with silence — a crushing creative choice that emphasizes Jeremiah’s absence, the fact that they’re on different pages, and the undeniable reality that things aren’t what they used to be.

On the theme of Jeremiah’s absence and the shifting love triangle in Episode 307, Meghan also pointed out the above shot, which sets up TSITP‘s classic trio similarly to Season 2’s symbolic motel scene. Only this time, there’s an empty space where Jeremiah should be, further emphasizing that distance between him and Belly, and potentially suggesting she’s leaning towards Conrad.

  6. Belly on 'TSITP'

We know, we know, it’s supposed to be five things you may have missed and a winning needle drop! But after following Season 3’s color symbolism all season, we have to shoutout that emotional dance floor scene, which shows Belly mentally playing a straight-up montage of Conrad flashbacks as Ariana Grande’s “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)” plays! We’ve talked all about the red and blue/loving him and losing him/Conrad vs Jere symbolism every episode, and if you pay attention to the lighting in this scene, it starts off purple, aka a mix of red and blue! As Belly thinks of Conrad, purple and red lights seem to battle overhead. And when she finally snaps herself out of the flashbacks and returns to reality, a splash of blue light hits her. Jenny, please confirm or deny your genius!

With Ariana Grande, Sabrina Carpenter, M.I.A., BLACKPINK, Zayn, Chappell Roan, and more playing in 307, there were many solid needle drops to choose from, but this is The Summer I Turned Pretty, and when an episode ends with a Taylor Swift song, it’s nearly impossible to beat. Swift’s “Robin” played during the glass unicorn flashback, but when “loml” hit at the end of the emotional episode, I was reduced to a puddle! Very cool, Jenny! Love that for me! As TSITP checks in with Belly crying in bed and Conrad comforting himself on the dock after his confession and their big beach blowout, “loml” ties their points of view together, confirming that they’re the love and loss of each other’s lives. BRB, SOBBING AGAIN!
