RALEIGH, N.C. — At his core, more than three decades later, Dan Hurley is that same tortured soul who quit the Seton Hall basketball team two games into the season in 1993, suffocated by the pressure of living up to the family name and disgusted with his game.

Hurley, all these years later, has achieved such a heightened level of success in leading UConn to back-to-back national championships entering this NCAA Tournament, that he’s more than lived up to the family name.

He has, by far, distanced himself from being The Third Hurley.

His father Bob cemented himself as arguably the greatest high school coach of all time while at St. Anthony’s in Jersey City, winning 28 state titles. And his older brother Bobby helped lead Duke to back-to-back national championships.
