Sorry, Larry!

“The Simpsons” viewers were shocked when the series unexpectedly killed off Larry “The Barfly” Dalrymple. And now co-executive producer Tim Long is reacting to the aftermath.

According to TMZ, Long and the creative team behind the long-running sitcom wanted Larry’s death to hit the audience hard.

Despite him not having a major role, the Fox series doesn’t often say goodbye to its fictional characters — which made this storyline a huge deal.

Larry, who was often seated next to his friend Sam at Moe’s Tavern, died on the latest episode of Season 35. He was 42 and was first introduced in Season 1’s “Homer’s Odyssey,” which aired in January 1990.

Larry would only say a line or two on occasion over the course of his 34 years on the beloved animated show.

Long went on to apologize to fans while speaking with TMZ. However, he was in a way happy to see viewers sad because it showed just how popular the series still is today.

As of February 2024, “The Simpsons” has aired more than 700 episodes. Creator Matt Groening previously revealed why the beloved characters are yellow.

“An animator came up with the Simpsons’ yellow and as soon as she showed it to me I said, ‘This is the answer!’,” Matt shared in an interview back in 2007. “When you’re flicking through channels with your remote control, and a flash of yellow goes by, you’ll know you’re watching The Simpsons.”
