More details have emerged on the extent of Daniel Jones’ injury.
The Giants quarterback’s neck injury has led to “significant weakness” in his left arm, NFL.com reported Sunday morning.
While the 26-year-old has regained strength, he’ll miss his third straight game on Sunday when the Giants (2-5) face the Jets (3-3), putting Tyrod Taylor under center once again.
The Post’s Paul Schwartz reported Saturday that Jones is “close” to returning, and it’s possible he’ll be cleared for contact within the next few days.
That would put a Jones return against the Raiders next week in play, though it’s more likely he’d come back for the Giants’ Week 10 game against the Cowboys.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll was asked on Friday, after ruling Jones out for the game against the Jets, if Jones will play again at some point this season.
“I don’t have a crystal ball with injuries, but he is getting better, and we’ll see where he is next week,’’ Daboll said.
Jones, in the first season of a four-year, $160 million contract, was injured during the Giants’ road loss to the Dolphins on Oct. 8.
In five games this season, Jones has 884 yards passing with two touchdowns and six interceptions, adding 197 yards rushing and another touchdown.
The six interceptions are more than Jones threw in 16 games last season (five).
Taylor, 34, has thrown for 479 yards and two touchdowns with zero interceptions during his two starts this season, a loss to the Bills on Oct. 15, and a win over the Commanders last week.
