The Rams would have to cross a few hurdles to make a Jalen Ramsey reunion work.
That’s according to head coach Sean McVay, who said Tuesday while the Rams don’t “want to rule anything out” in terms of possibly teaming up again with Ramsey — currently on the Dolphins’ trading block — executing such a move wouldn’t be without challenges.
“Usually, those are scenarios and situations that you have to have plans in place prior to executing some of the decisions that have occurred,” McVay said from the team’s mandatory minicamp in Maui, according to NFL.com.
“Definitely don’t want to rule anything out because we’re always open-minded to onboarding and acquiring quality players and people like him, if we’re able to do that, but there would be some obstacles that are real that are in the place of maybe preventing that from occurring.”
A first-round pick with the Jaguars in 2016, Ramsey was traded to the Rams early in the 2019 season. He won his first Super Bowl with the club in February 2022 before being traded to the Dolphins in March the following year.
Although Ramsey, 30, agreed to a three-year, $72.3 million contract extension with Miami in September 2024, the team announced less than 12 months later that the parties are exploring a trade.
Ramsey missed the Pro Bowl last season for the first time since 2016 after recording just two interceptions and 11 pass deflections.
He carries a 2025 cap hit of $16.6 million.
Ramsey has opted to remain away from the Dolphins until the matter is resolved.
As for his former Rams team, the reigning NFC West champs are looking to build off a 10-7 campaign that included a playoff berth.
They fell to the eventual Super Bowl-winning Eagles in the divisional round.
The Rams host the Texans in Week 1.
It remains to be seen if Ramsey will have a new NFL home by the start of the regular season.
