The Mets Hall of Fame is about to gain a new member when the team retires David Wright’s No. 5 this afternoon ahead of a 4:10 p.m. tilt with the Cincinnati Reds.

Wright spent his entire 14-year MLB career with the New York Mets, where he played third base and served as the team’s most recent captain, from 2013-2018. Following a series of back injuries that took him in and out of the game for three years, Wright retired in 2018.

The seven-time All Star garnered two Gold Gloves, two Silver Sluggers, and was named Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award once during his 14-year career, in which he also led the New York Mets to the World Series in 2015.

david wright number retirement: what to know

Wright’s No. 5 will be the 11th retired number to join Citi Field’s rafters, but his same-day induction into the Mets Hall of Fame puts him in a much smaller club. He’ll join Tom Seaver as the only other Mets legend to receive both honors on the same day.

Ahead of this afternoon’s game, an on-field ceremony is set to take place. Here’s everything you need to know to tune in to Wright’s jersey retirement.

The jersey retirement ceremony for David Wright will begin at 3:15 p.m., per an X post from the New York Mets. SNY will start broadcasting coverage at 3 p.m.

The Mets vs. Reds game will follow at 4:10 p.m.

If you live in the Mets television market and don’t have cable, there are two live TV streaming services that include SNY in plans and offer free trials.

Though it’s not free, you can also watch SNY live with its new in-market streaming package offered through MLB.tv. For $69.99, subscribers in the NY area will be able to stream every Mets game that airs on SNY through the rest of the season.

Living outside of the Mets TV market? No problem — MLB.tv has you covered. You can take advantage of a seven-day free trial before payment begins for whichever of the two plans you choose.

There are options for an all-team pass ($29.99/month) and a single-team pass ($79.99/year).
