The Mets Hall of Fame is about to gain a new member when the team retires David Wright’s No. 5 this afternoon ahead of a 4:10 p.m. tilt with the Cincinnati Reds.
Wright spent his entire 14-year MLB career with the New York Mets, where he played third base and served as the team’s most recent captain, from 2013-2018. Following a series of back injuries that took him in and out of the game for three years, Wright retired in 2018.
The seven-time All Star garnered two Gold Gloves, two Silver Sluggers, and was named Wilson Defensive Player of the Year Award once during his 14-year career, in which he also led the New York Mets to the World Series in 2015.
Wright’s No. 5 will be the 11th retired number to join Citi Field’s rafters, but his same-day induction into the Mets Hall of Fame puts him in a much smaller club. He’ll join Tom Seaver as the only other Mets legend to receive both honors on the same day.

The jersey retirement ceremony for David Wright will begin at 3:15 p.m., per an X post from the New York Mets. SNY will start broadcasting coverage at 3 p.m.
