Event to watch: Sport Climbing
Think rock climbing during kids’ birthday parties, but turned up several notches.
Incorporating the categories of speed (pitting two climbers against each other on a 15-meter wall), bouldering (using no ropes, in fact) and lead (scaling as much of a wall as possible in six minutes), athletes mix their dexterity and quickness in exciting competition.
In the Olympics for a second time, there will be medalists based on combined results in bouldering and lead, plus a separate category for speed.
