Just like in the player free agency period, a coaching search brings about the silly season of information. Names are being thrown around left and right. There’s a reason the words “agenda” and “agent” are so similar.
Plus, the relatively new PR strategy for teams is to present an “exhaustive search,” thereby leaving the appearance of due diligence even when there’s only one or two legitimate candidates. It obviously doesn’t help with transparency that the Knicks front office doesn’t speak publicly.
With that being said, there were a couple of nuggets heard Wednesday worth sharing, per people in touch with the Knicks.
The first is that experience is important for picking the next Knicks coach. Does that mean every newbie should be crossed off the list? Probably not. But my understanding is it is a factor.
