Drew Barrymore and Linda Evangelista celebrated today’s #ThrowbackThursday with a story about the time they hooked up in an airport — but not in the way you may think.
On this morning’s episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Evangelista asked Barrymore if she remembered how a Nintendo Gameboy prompted their first meeting in an airport decades ago.
“When I turned 25, my mother said to me, ‘What would you like for your birthday?’ And I said, ‘A Gameboy.’ And she got so mad and said, ‘I am not buying my model daughter a Gameboy [at] 25 years old,'” Evangelista said, noting that she ultimately decided to purchase the gaming device for herself.
That’s when she met Barrymore.
“Here I am with my Gameboy. I had flown from Los Angeles to Paris, connecting to the South of France,” she continued. “And there you were in the lounge. I’m on my Gameboy and I spot you and I go, ‘Oh my God, that’s Drew Barrymore.’ I look at you and you’re on your Gameboy.”
According to the model, she kept “making eye contact” with Barrymore from across the lounge until she finally built up the courage to approach the actress.
“I said to you, ‘Do you want to hook up?’ And you said, ‘What do you mean?’” Evangelista recalled. “And I pulled the cord out of my bag. Someone had just given me this very obscure cord where you could put two Gameboys together and play against each other.”

The two icons spent the rest of their time together playing Tetris, so when they reunited on The Drew Barrymore Show, Barrymore surprised Evangelista with a Gameboy.
“Get out. Oh, my God,” Evangelista said. “Does it get batteries? I’m gonna play it. I don’t even remember how to do this.”
The star pulled out her glasses to get a better look at the relic, joking, “I knew I might need my glasses!”
The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS. You can check the website for local airtimes.
