You don’t get a nickname like “The Dog Whisperer” without earning it.
Cesar Millan, the canine behaviorist with more than 25 years of experience, has helped hundreds of dog owners — including stars like Oprah Winfrey, Jerry Seinfeld and Tom Brady — to better understand their pups.
As the best-selling author of “Cesar’s Way” explains, he trains people, not canines.
“Humans often are filled with worry, stress or fear and that energy will project onto the dog, because dogs read our energy more than our actions,” says Millan, 53, the star of National Geographic’s “Better Human Better Dog” series and co-founder of Halo Collar, a GPS-based fencing system. “Training comes down to exercise, direction and affection. If you provide a dog with the tools it needs, it will give you unconditional trust, respect and love.”
To that end, here are a few treats he believes every pooch parent should possess.
