PORT ST. LUCIE — Kodai Senga’s second spring training with the Mets couldn’t be much drearier.

The right-hander was shut down from throwing three weeks ago due to shoulder strain, and awaits clearance to resume. In recent days, manager Carlos Mendoza indicated Senga will be given an extra week beyond the originally targeted March 15 to rest the shoulder. Senga will open the season on the injured list and won’t pitch for the Mets before May.

Beyond his professional frustration, Senga also lost an opportunity this spring to pick up a new hobby.

“I know this city is very big on golf and right now I wish I could golf, but I need to take care of my shoulder,” Senga told Sports+ through his interpreter. “Right now, I’m just doing everything I can to just keep the shoulder healthy.”
