Just as the Bridgerton series began as books, Netflix‘s prequel series Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story has received a novelization, which is out now.
Queen Charlotte comes from Julia Quinn, who penned all eight Bridgerton novels, and Shonda Rhimes, the creator of the Bridgerton series. Rhimes also wrote four episodes of the new six-episode series while contributing to the story on a fifth. The novel is Rhimes’ published fiction debut.
While the series jumps between two timelines, the novel is set in the earlier timeline, where young Charlotte (India Amarteifio), a German princess, enters an arranged marriage with King George III of England (Corey Mylchreest). It explores Charlotte embracing her duties as Queen while also falling in love with George, who pushes her away due to mental illness. The book may even answer fans’ burning question after episode six: what happened to Reynolds?

The Queen Charlotte audiobook is 12 hours and 22 minutes long on 1x speed and is narrated by Natalie Simpson. It’s available from Audible and Libro.fm. It’s still unclear whether Netflix will renew the series for a second season. It was initially envisioned as a limited series, but Netflix has renewed limited series for additional seasons in the past. However, members of the cast told Decider they’d be open to reprising their roles in the future.
For now, Queen Charlotte will likely only return as an adult (played by Golda Rosheuvel) in upcoming seasons of Bridgerton.
