The Issue: President Biden trailing behind former President Donald Trump in recent polls.
Despite the pessimism, there is a straightforward way for President Biden to “turn the tanker” and win re-election (“Dems’ ‘Oh my God’ moment,” May 29).
At the convention, Vice President Kamala Harris must voluntarily withdraw and be replaced by someone with more gravitas and solid left-wing credentials, such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom.
It works for Biden as it improves his chance for re-election. Fears over his obvious mental decline would be assuaged by a competent backup and the left would be more engaged.
And it works for Harris: She has VP on her resumé, and if she falls on her sword she will be a party hero with a bright future. As a consolation prize, Biden could bestow upon her a little fiefdom, such as secretary of state. It works for everyone — except, of course, the country.

There is no way I’d ever be convinced that Biden is legitimately anywhere close to Trump in these polls.

This is a very good question: All things considered, how come President Biden is trailing former President Donald Trump? And even if he’s not actually trailing, given the margins of error, why would they even be neck-and-neck?
Here’s a better question: If Trump is as bad as they say he is, then why isn’t Biden polling ahead of him?
Why do so many American voters prefer a self-absorbed, womanizing, narcissistic, criminally minded dictator wannabe over a humble old man who just wants everyone to get along?
Is this an indicator of blind “brand loyalty” and the possibility that the nation is ideologically split pretty much evenly down the middle?
Are half of us “good” people and the other half “bad” — or vice versa?
Please help me out here because I just don’t get it.

Biden is so desperate to keep power he is attempting to buy your vote by forgiving billions in student-loan debt and striving to lower the high gas prices he helped create.
He’s clearly worried about the polls.

The Issue: Hillary Clinton blaming women for her 2016 presidential election loss in new book.
I read the column about Hillary Clinton’s recent interview and her continued complaints around losing the 2016 election — only now she is pinning the blame on women (“Hillary’s blame game,” Kristen Fleming, May 29).
I hope everyone can see the massive hypocrisy of the Democrats. With all the complaints against former President Donald Trump, Hillary seems equally focused on her own defeat.
Why aren’t we holding Clinton to the same standard as Trump when it comes to respecting election results?
We elect people who are supposed to serve our interests and the common good. The Dems are trying to steer us into an autocracy. We can’t let that happen.

Hilary Clinton has her deplorables and Gov. Hochul has her clowns. Do they really believe it is appropriate to malign millions of voters merely for supporting other candidates?
How is it that they have no demeaning labels for anti-American agitators on campuses in blue cities? Where are the comments concerning asylum seekers, many with criminal backgrounds. who are interlopers in our cities, contributing little and drawing extensively on costly city services?
