Make stupid bets, lose stupid amounts of money –– this, according to French tennis player Gael Monfils.

Monfils, 38, lost to Alex Michelsen at the Stuttgart Open 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 and was apparently getting chirped at by some fans for not giving them their desired outcome.

“Hey guys, this is not financial advice, but you’re still betting on me? First tournament on grass,” Monfils said in an Instagram Live post. “I’m playing Alex Michelsen. Twenty years old. [Ranked No.] 35 in the world. And you want to bet on me? You write in that I’m s–t. I know I’m s–t. We both know I’m s–t. And you still bet on me? Who’s the dumbest between you and me? Be honest.”

Monfils, 38, also hinted that the fans harassing him on social media were attacking him racially.

“Again I am going to mention it. We are in 2025, and you give me the skin color. What my skin color have to do with the tennis performance?” Monfils added. “I know I look pretty, I say that because my mom and my wife tell me I look pretty, maybe I look really awful for you.”

Warning explicit language

Monfils has 13 ATP Tour titles and reached multiple grand slam semifinals and at one point was ranked No. 6 in the world.

He has enjoyed a strong 2025 becoming the oldest ATP Tour champion in history when he won the Auckland Open at 38 years old.

It’s yet another example of fans harassing athletes while betting on sports.

Erich Richter is a brazilian jiu-jitsu blue belt but he has a black belt in MMA betting. During the football season he’s showcased massive profits at The Post in the player prop market the last two seasons. While constantly betting long shots, his return on investment is 30.15 percent since 2022.
