A teenager teared up as she recalled getting sucker-punched in the face by a stranger in Chelsea this week — recounting the “traumatic” incident in a clip posted to TikTok.
Ellio Wagner, 19, said she was on her way to work at 5:50 a.m. Friday when she noticed a man walking toward her between West 25th and West 26th Street on Sixth Avenue.
“He wasn’t doing anything that I perceived as a threat until I noticed him walking diagonally towards me and before I could even process what that meant he punched me in the face and ran off,” she says in the three minute, 22-second video.
She caled the incident “scary,” adding “you never know when s–t like this is going to happen.”
Wagner called 911 and filed a complaint, hoping the cameras at a nearby grocery store would lead cops to her attacker.
“So hopefully, those caught the incident and the police will be able to figure out who did this to me and they will be punished,” she said.
Wagner, who is sporting a black eye in the video, said the attack has made her scared of walking in the city alone.
“This is really traumatic and it makes me very scared to be walking around New York alone, which is not something I’ve really been scared of,” she said.
Typically she carries pepper spray, she said, but she didn’t have it with her at the time of the attack. She also addressed the burgeoning number of mentally ill people walking around the city.

“There’s a lot of people and a lot of mentally unwell people,” she said. “Obviously, the person that hit me has some mental issues because nobody in their right mind would just punch a random person and run away.”
Wagner, who at times becomes visibly upset in the video, also contemplates how much worse it could have been.
“If he could have kept punching me there was nobody around to stop him,” she says.
She then warns women to watch their backs.
“If you are a woman living in New York City, please protect yourself,” she said. “Please stay aware because you will never know when s–t like this is gonna happen. And it’s really scary. It’s really traumatic. And I just want everyone to stay safe but New York can be a very dangerous place.”
The NYPD confirmed the reported assault and said there have been no arrests.
