Jenelle Evans has regained custody of her 13-year-old son, Jace.
The “Teen Mom” alum, 31, announced the exciting news on Sunday with an emotional TikTok video that showed the moment she signed the paperwork and sobbed happily in her car.
“ITS OFFICIAL!” Evans captioned the 40-second video. “Thanks everyone for the support! Words can’t describe how happy I truly am. Our family is complete now! Thank you mom.”
In 2010, Jenelle’s mother, Barbara Evans, was awarded custody of Jace when he was just one year old. At the time, Janelle, who was just 18 at the time, had been charged with marijuana possession and breaking and entering.
Now, the “16 and Pregnant” alum — who shares Jace with ex Andrew Lewis — hopes the transition improves her relationship with Barbara after years of feuding.
“My mom and I decided together to grant full custody back to me because we want to build our relationship back as mother and daughter,” she told Us Weekly over the weekend.
Janelle — who is also mother to Kaiser, 8, with ex Nathan Griffith and Ensley, 6, with husband David Eason — said the change will also be the best thing for Jace as he enters his teenage years.
“Also, my mother agrees it’s time for Jace to be back with his siblings and living with a mother and father,” she told the outlet.
“She also thinks it’s important for Jace to be around a father figure to learn ‘boy things’ and have ‘men talk.’ She has seen the way David parents my children and she knows we’re able to handle it. We want to all get along for the sake of the children.”
Although Jenelle’s manager, August Keen, said she and Eason are doing “great,” they’ve gone through their fair share of ups and downs over the years.
The mother of three, who married Eason in 2017, was fired by MTV in 2018 after her husband shot and killed the family dog.
The pair split up shortly after, with Jenelle even filing a temporary restraining order against Eason, 34, claiming he was abusive.
Then in June 2020, Eason was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon for striking a friend of Jenelle’s in the back of the neck after getting into an argument.
Evans posted about the incident on Facebook, assuring friends and family that she was “safe.”
Despite their constant legal trouble, the pair reconciled just a few months later.
