The NFL’s love story with Taylor Swift isn’t cooling off as the 2024 season nears — much to the disdain of a few “Brads and Chads.”
Several fans took to X on Monday to voice their frustration over the pop superstar, whose romance with Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce took center stage in a 30-second hype video released by the league.
“STOP SHOWING TAYLOR SWIFT WE DONT CARE,” one X user posted.
Another griped, “WHY ARE WE SHOWING TAYLOR SWIFT 5 TIMES I THOUGHT THIS WAS FOOTBALL ?”
Some fans pointed out that star Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, who is coming off an MVP campaign, was shown in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment.
“This video shows 2023 NFL MVP Lamar Jackson 1 time, and Taylor Swift 5 times,” one X user commented.
“Fun fact: this video showed taylor swift more times (5) than the literal mvp (1),” a separate fan wrote.
One user also pondered aloud, “Why does Taylor swift have more appearances than any actual player in this video?”
Swift captured the heart of Kelce — and some NFL viewers — last year, when the 14-time Grammy winner made her first Arrowhead Stadium appearance during the Chiefs’ Week 3 win over the Bears.
Her attendance at home and on the road dominated headlines, culminating in February with the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win against the 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Swift and Kelce, both 34, kissed on the field after the Chiefs secured their second straight title.
Although Swift enjoyed her game-day experiences, which included a secret handshake with Chiefs WAGs and chugging drinks on the Jumbotron, she was aware of the heightened attention this past season.
“I’m just there to support Travis,” Swift said in her TIME Person of the Year interview in December 2023.
“I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
The Chiefs open the season at home on Thursday against the Ravens in an AFC Championship rematch.
It remains to be seen if Swift, who cheered on Kelce in the Chiefs’ AFC title-winning victory this past January, will be in attendance.
