Taylor Sheridan‘s latest epic, Landman, has officially been renewed for a second season on Paramount+.

The series, which first premiered on Paramount+ in 2024, stars Billy Bob Thornton as a fixer for an oil company in West Texas, where he juggles the dangerous responsibilities of his job — such as dealing with the local cartel — with his own family responsibilities. Sheridan helped adapt the story from the popular Texas Monthly podcast Boomtown, which explores how the West Texas oil boom, fueled by “billionaire wildcatters and roughnecks,” is reshaping national politics. Demi Moore, Jon Hamm, Ali Larter, and Andy Garcia also star in the Neo-Western drama.

Thornton’s Season 1 performance already earned him a Golden Globe nomination, marking his seventh nomination.

More broadly, Landman became a breakout hit for Paramount+ after it premiered last November. In a release, Paramount shared the series set the record for most watched global premiere and finale of any series in the streamer’s history. It was also the top Paramount+ original series of all time with 14.9 million households tuning in.

And that’s only on Paramount+. By the end of 2024, Landman ranked amongst the top three most-watched streaming original series.

Moore seemingly confirmed Season 2 was good to go in May 2024 while promoting her film The Substance.

“I’ve already completed the first season and I’m excited for us to start the second, which will be at the beginning of next year,” she said. Thornton has expressed similar sentiments, teasing that production would begin in February or March 2025.

This is just the latest series Sheridan has created for Paramount, in addition to the hit Western series Yellowstone and its several spinoffs including 1923 and 1883. Sheridan co-created the series with Boomtown host Christian Wallace.

Wallace and Sheridan also serve as executive producers on the series, alongside Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman and Stephen Kay, who have all worked on other Sheridan projects. Thornton is also credited as an EP on the series.

Landman Season 1 is streaming now on Paramount+.
