NextImg:Tarik Cohen shows Jets some vintage flash

Observations from the Jets’ training camp practice on Thursday.

RB Tarik Cohen, who is returning from a torn ACL in 2020 and a ruptured Achilles in 2022, showed some of his old burst.

Working with the second-team offense, he stopped on a dime and cut back all the way across the field to elude a pack of defenders on one sideline and gain a chunk of yards.

LT Tyron Smith and LG John Simpson — both of whom are new to Rodgers’ complex cadence — committed a total of three false starts.

The Jets have a new punishment for offensive line penalties in which the guilty party is subbed out for a play because “those 5 yards cost us,” head coach Robert Saleh said.

Center Joe Tippman says players like it because it enforces “accountability.”

When Tyrod Taylor and the second-team offense subs in for Rodgers, the Jets keep slinging it downfield.

Taylor completed one long pass to Malik Taylor, but then he overthrew him later.

Ballhawking fifth-round pick Qwan’tez Stiggers intercepted the pass and tried to navigate the sideline with his toes.

The first 11-on-11 play of practice was a deep connection from Aaron Rodgers to Garrett Wilson down the left sideline.

Call it a case of Rodgers giving the crowd on hand for the open practice exactly what it wanted and the fans responding with loud cheers.

RG Aljiah Vera-Tucker and RT Morgan Moses were held out of team drills again, but both could return next week, Saleh said.

WR Xavier Gipson limped off, but Saleh did not sound concerned.
