NextImg:Talenti gelato fans are begging the brand to make the jars easier to open — here’s what the brand is doing about it

If you’ve ever tried to enjoy some Talenti gelato, you’ve probably experienced the frustration of opening the jar.

Customers have been expressing their irritation online for some time now — and the company is listening.

Talenti’s packaging is inspired by the way Italian gelaterias display their gelato assortments, according to the brand, but the clear jar with dark-brown screw-top lid has been anything but satisfying for fans who just want to taste the smooth, velvety gelato inside.

One person on TikTok shared that they “tried everything” to get the screw lid off of the jar including running it under water and using a mitten grip, but nothing worked — so she cut a hole in the side of the jar.

“So that’s not how you’re supposed to do it? Obvs the top is not for opening!” one person commented in response.

Another person cut hole into the brown lid and wrote, “The inventor of Talenti better sleep with one eye open.”

One person even broke their Robotwist Jar Opener in an unsuccessful attempt to use it to open their Talenti jar.

A TikTokker shared a video of her husband using heavy-duty pliers to get the lid off — and it worked with some grunting and elbow grease.

“Talenti count your days,” a user wrote over a video that showed her trying pretty much everything, including using a hammer, to get access to her beloved gelato.

And people in the comments of these posts all seemed to have similar issues.

“I’ve had a near mental breakdown trying to open one of these,” one person shared.

“Talenti’s gonna have a class action for giving us arthritis,” someone quipped.

“I thought it was just me struggling,” another said with crying emojis. “I don’t understand why it’s so hard to enjoy an ice cream. Very unnecessary.”

“I broke a knife in a desperate attempt to get one open!” a user admitted.

“By the time I get them open, I don’t even want it anymore,” another commented.

Talenti has taken notice of the fight, posting their own TikTok with a voiceover saying, “We’ve seen the creative ways fans have tried to open our jars. From wrenches to steamers and sheer willpower, the struggle to open our jars is real.”

“We agree, opening the jar shouldn’t be the hardest part,” they continued. “Our team is actively working on a long-term fix.”

In the meantime, they gave tips on the best way to open their jars: Let it sit at room temperature for 3-5 minutes, then use a jar gripper — they even sell a branded one called the Talenti twist — to twist it open, and enjoy.

The brand told TODAY.com that they’re working on a permanent solution, and as a short-term fix, they’re rolling out a new lid for their jars.

“We hear our fans loud and clear. Getting into our jars can be difficult at times, but rest assured, we’re actively working to address that challenge,” a Talenti spokesperson told the outlet.

“In addition, we have an expert team, focusing on packaging and engineering, working on a long-term solution that preserves the signature look of our transparent jars while significantly improving ease of use.”
