A man was pulled from the water in Rockaway Beach Friday evening and was taken to the hospital in grave condition, according to police.
The unidentified swimmer began struggling in the ocean near Beach 91st Street in Queens around 5:15 p.m., the NYPD said.
He was taken to St John’s Episcopal Hospital, where he was fighting for his life, according to cops and FDNY.
Police were seen at the beach collecting the victim’s backpack and belongings.
The incident comes just days after a 14-year-old boy drowned in the rough waters off Far Rockaway in Queens.
The teen had been swimming near Beach 75th Street around 5:45 p.m. Sunday after the beach had closed early because of bad weather when no lifeguards were on duty.
After being submerged beneath the choppy seas for several minutes, a retired lifeguard and her active lifeguard friend jumped into action to save the boy, but were too late by the time they reached him in the water.
