NextImg:Suzyn Waldman: Mets guys made ‘big deal’ out of A’s possum

It looks like Yankees radio analyst Suzyn Waldman is a supporter of the infamous Oakland Coliseum possum.

When the Mets visited Oakland to face the A’s last Sunday, SNY’s Mets broadcasters had to leave the visiting booth because of the marsupial — and its feces.

Waldman argued that the possum could be one of the few reasons fans attend Atheltics’ games, especially since they will be moving to Las Vegas.

“I know Oakland gets what? Like 2,000 people a day now going to their games,” She said. “Why would anyone go … unless you’re a fan of the other team … or you want to see the possum in the broadcast booth.”

She continued to express her love for the animal species, claiming the Met’s announcer blew the situation out of proportion.

“You know, the Mets guys made a big deal of that possum,” Waldman told play-by-play voice John Sterling. “That possum was there when we were there last year. He has a nest in the radio booth … possums are very sweet. They don’t hurt anybody. Really nice little animals.”

The possum has somehow managed to evade the stadium staff and keep its home in the broadcast booth since last season.

“So the Angels played here at the beginning of the season,” SNY’s Gary Cohen said during the Mets 17-6 win over the A’s last Friday. “They were the first team in. Wayne Randazzo, our friend, is now the television voice of the Angels, and he told us in the opening game of the season, the possum, who apparently lives somewhere in the wall behind that visitors’ TV booth, made an appearance during the game in their booth.”

“It was just crawling around, minding its own possum business, walking across the counter. He wasn’t trying to horn in on the broadcast. He was just doing his possum things. Anyway, so they set traps for this possum, but he’s proved elusive.”

When the Athletics move to Las Vegas in 2027, who knows, maybe the possum will follow them there, too.
