NextImg:Suspect charged with murder in dorm room gunshot killings at University of Colorado

A suspect was in custody Monday after two people were shot dead inside a University of Colorado dorm last week, cops said.

Nicholas Jordan, 25, was identified as the alleged killer in the grisly gunshot slayings of 24-year-old university student Samuel Knopp and Celie Rain Montgomery, 26, police said in a Facebook post.

Jordan, of Detroit, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, police said.

“Investigative efforts continue to indicate this was an isolated incident between individuals who were known to one another and not a random attack against the school or other students at the university,” the department said. “More details about the suspect and charges will be provided at a future time.”

Colorado Springs police identified the victims over the weekend and ruled out earlier reports that the double slaying was the result of a murder-suicide — classifying the shootings as a homicide.

Police responded to reports of shots fired at Crestone House, a dorm building on campus, shortly before 6 a.m. on Friday and found the pair dead inside — each with a single gunshot to the head.

The incident briefly sent the school into lockdown as cops launched a search for the shooter.

Authorities said Montgomery was not enrolled at the school, and have not released further details about the circumstances or a motive for the fatal shootings.

In a Facebook post, university Chancellor Jennifer Sobanet said the school had scheduled two forums for students and faculty on Tuesday to provide more information about the incident.

“We will continue to work closely alongside CSPD as the investigation continues to unfold,” Sobanet said.

“CSPD has reiterated that investigative efforts so far continue to indicate this is an isolated incident between parties that were known to one another and not a random attack against the school or other students at the university,” she said. “The university will continue to share information as we are able.”
