A surfer in Hawaii died over the weekend from injuries sustained in a “shark encounter,” authorities said.

Jason Carter, 39, of Haiku, was pulled from the Paia Bay off the beach area of 93 Hana Highway at 11:19 a.m. Saturday, the Maui Police Department said.

Ocean Safety Officers brought Carter to shore via jet ski, and first responders performed lifesaving measures on the beach before the victim was transferred to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he later died, officials explained.

Details on the exact nature of Carter’s injuries were not immediately available.

An investigation into the tragedy – which has been categorized as a “miscellaneous type incident” – remains ongoing.

Maui Police did not immediately respond to a request from The Post for clarification on the specifics of the deadly encounter.

Baldwin Beach Park and Baby Beach, near the scene of Carter’s alleged shark encounter, were closed on Saturday following the incident, the Honolulu Star Advertiser noted.
