The Super Bowl Gatorade shower is a tradition unlike any other in professional sports.
Once a winner has been decided in the big game, the winning coach is then snuck up on by members of his team and a cooler filled with an ice-cold liquid is dumped on him.
And the key word is liquid.
While it is called the Gatorade shower, that doesn’t necessarily mean it will actually be Gatorade you’ll see drenched on the winning coach.
In fact, in four consecutive years from 2005-08, it was water that was dumped on the winning coach.
Below are the complete 2024 Super Bowl Gatorade odds, which is only legally allowed for betting in the United States in Washington D.C., Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey, West Virginia and Wyoming
Gatorade Color | Odds |
---|---|
Purple | +225 |
Blue | +275 |
Yellow/Green/Lime | +450 |
Red/Pink | +500 |
Orange | +500 |
Clear/Water | 10/1 |
No Gatorade Bath | 30/1 |
Purple is the clear favorite, as it is the color that the Chiefs dumped on their team last season, but that was the first time since the 2012 Giants that the winning color was purple.
Blue is a rightful second favorite, as its the most common color since 2012, coming up four times in that time span, including two of the last three years.
Interestingly enough, the no Gatorade bath option, which opened at 40/1 before being bet down to 30/1, has popped up three times since 2000.
The Patriots did not participate in 2002 and 2017, while the Ravens also abstained in 2013.

It has not landed on water since the 2008 Giants shocked the world.
The betting market for this is obviously niche and many will say, “You really bet on that?”
Well, some people are going to be looking for an edge in this type of market.
49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has not won a Super Bowl yet, so there is no history to draw from there.
However, Shanahan was given a small shower after his first win as a head coach in 2017. This appears to be water, if that’s any historical context for those looking to wager on the Gatorade shower.
One bettor has begun messaging every player on each team, asking them for the Gatorade color so he can win a gift card and skip class.
“Hey huge fan of the Kansas City Chiefs Football team,” the suave information seeker said in an Instagram direct message that was posted on X. ” Doing a school project where we guess the colour of the Gatorade in the Super Bowl and the winner gets a $15 Starbucks gift card and gets to skip math class, grrr math! Any hints? Thanks!”
It would appear that he messaged most of the team on each side, judging by the screenshot of his chat list.
Anything for a buck, eh? Nice try.
