NextImg:Super Bowl logo conspiracy theory officially debunked by Ravens’ loss

Well, this Super Bowl conspiracy theory is officially over.

The Chiefs’ AFC Championship game victory over the Ravens ended any validity to a theory that the Super Bowl LVIII logo had been revealing what teams would make the NFL’s championship game with the colors it featured.

This year’s logo features the colors purple and red, leading some tinfoil-hatted football fans to suspect the NFL was planning on making sure the 49ers and Ravens made it to the Super Bowl.

Where exactly the origins of this conspiracy theory came from is unclear, but X account @NFL_Memes had shared a photo in November that showed the alleged connection between the colors in the Super Bowl logo to the teams that had played in them, according to USA Today.

The image pointed out that Super Bowl LVII’s colors were green, red, and purple, which matched the colors of the Eagles and Chiefs, and Super Bowl LVI had red, orange, and yellow, coinciding with the Bengals and Rams’ colors.

The meme did appear to alter the yellow in the Super Bowl LVI logo to better match the Rams’ shade of the color in the team logo.

Conspiracy theorists felt they had another smoking gun when Canadian news station, CTV, accidentally put on its scroll that the Ravens and 49ers would play in the Super Bowl taking place on Feb. 11.

A photo was shared across social media earlier this month, however, a spokesperson for the network clarified that it was a human error.

“This incorrect information appeared on local news station CTV Vancouver Island, as part of a news feed provided by local radio station CFAX 1070AM,” a spokesperson told Snopes. “It was the result of human error, and was quickly corrected. The mistake was also addressed on the CFAX morning show.”

The NFL has not shied away from having a bit of fun over the fact that some of its fans believe the seasons are scripted, and they famously built an entire ad campaign around it ahead of this season.

But the logo conspiracy seemed to be too much for football fans, who celebrated the demise of it after the Chiefs handed the Ravens a 17-10 loss at M&T Bank Stadium.

“With the Super Bowl logo color conversation over can we agree to stop saying stupid things from now on?” one fan wrote

“RIP Super Bowl logo conspiracy, 2023-24,” someone else wrote

The Chiefs will appear in their fourth Super Bowl in five seasons.

It sets up a meeting with either the Lions or 49ers in Las Vegas on Feb. 11.
