Spend a few minutes on popular social media platforms and you might not find a single positive comment regarding the Phoenix Suns right now.
They own the Western Conference’s 11th seed with a 26-29 record, which means they would miss the play-in tournament. Additionally, they are an NBA-worst 19-35-1 against the spread, which is a measure of a team’s performance against expectations.
Fans might point to injuries, but that is a lame excuse. This is a team that has made trades and lineup changes to offset what is an abysmal culture and attitude. Since the season’s first week, they have lacked any inkling of cohesion.
Nothing has changed since I addressed this six weeks ago. I wish I faded them religiously, but I am nonetheless 27-14 ATS in this sports section and will look to rack up wins against Phoenix over the next two months.
That starts Sunday when they travel north of the border. The Raptors rank fourth-best in cover percentage at 32-23-1 ATS. They’re even better on their home court at 17-12-1 ATS.

Truthfully, Toronto thrives in the large underdog role. Asking it to win is a much different request, given the Raptors are a brutal 22 games under .500. But this is a quality team at full strength like it is today, and I expect the Raptors to win. Plus, they have an intense coach in Darko Rajakovic, who always has his team ready to play hard, which is the polar opposite of the Suns.
Phoenix got crushed in its first game after the All-Star break, even though the Spurs were playing without rising star Victor Wembanyama. The Suns traveled to face a spiraling Bulls squad on Saturday. Back-to-back road games often test NBA teams, and the Suns are a predictable 3-7-1 ATS playing without rest this season.
I will back the Raptors all day in this situational spot.
