Sunny Hostin rarely agrees with Alyssa Farah Griffin on The View. On this morning’s episode of the long-running daytime talk show, however, Hostin was pleasantly surprised to find herself aligning with her Republican co-host’s opinion.

During the opening Hot Topics segment, the panel discussed the new Senate dress code, which allows for recreation-like clothing on the Senate floor. While Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar stood up for politicians wearing whatever they wanted, Griffin had a different perspective.

According to the former White House staffer — who claimed defenders of the insurrection have no leg to stand on in this argument — dressing up is “showing a respect for the institution that you’re in.”

“I worked on Capitol Hill for many years. It was such a cool, interesting, exciting job,” she recalled. “One of my early things I did, I led tours. When constituents came in, they would even dress up. They were like, ‘These are chambers that Abraham Lincoln walked in, John McCain, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson.’ There’s a hallowed ground to it — even if at times, our current representatives tend to deface it a bit.”

While she liked the “earnestness” of Sen. John Fetterman — who famously dons hoodies and gym shorts — she felt as though politicians should “dress for that job that you want.” After all, they signed up for a job “that has historically had this dress code.”

Meanwhile, Hostin was shocked to find herself agreeing with Griffin — with whom she often clashes on political topics.

“I don’t know what’s happening to me,” Hostin began. “Because Alyssa’s making more and more sense to me every single day.”

However, their newfound alliance didn’t last too long as they held different stances on Republicans and gun safety in the following segment.

“I think this is a bit of an intellectually cheap argument to say, ‘You’re a Republican, therefore the blood of children is on your hands.’ I think that is a bridge way too far … It contributes to the polarization of Republicans are evil and Democrats are good or Democrats are evil and Republicans aren’t,” Griffin said, to which Hostin chimed in, “See, now you lost me again. I was, like, with you the last segment. She lost me.”

As Goldberg perfectly put it: “That’s why they call it The View.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
