Sunny Hostin had an emotional response to a conversation about cardiovascular health on this morning’s episode of The View, which came only one day after her aunt died of a heart attack.

The panel welcomed OG co-host Star Jones back to the Hot Topics table to fill in for Joy Behar, who has been absent for the last two days.

Jones, who had open heart surgery 14 years ago, opened up about her longtime work as a national volunteer for the American Heart Association, noting that cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of Americans, Black Americans and women. She listed a number of lifestyle changes people can make to avoid cardiovascular disease, including exercise, eating better and not smoking.

When it came time to pivot the conversation to her gig on Divorce Court, Hostin asked Alyssa Farah Griffin to take over.

“I’m sorry. My heart died yesterday of a heart attack,” a teary-eyed Hostin said, before turning to Griffin and asking, “So, can you take my question?”

After playing a clip from the show’s new season, Jones found a way to address Hostin’s recent loss.

“Like just what happened when you shared with me that you lost somebody dear to you, my job is to be empathetic to people at Divorce Court, the litigates that come before me, to let them know that they’re not alone in their relationship drama or trauma and that somebody is there for you to help you get through it,” she said.

Jones continued, “So, it might be the silliest transition I’ve ever made on television, but understand that your aunt is at home with her God and we are here to fulfill her legacy.”

Hostin apologized again as she wiped another tear away from her eyes.

“Do not worry about stuff like that,” Jones told her. “We’re your girls. You’re supposed to be vulnerable with your girls. That’s what it’s about.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
