The Roy family is gearing up to make a buzzy exit with the fourth and final season of Succession.

The HBO drama follows a wealthy family as they navigate life as owners of media conglomerate Waystar RoyCo amid their patriarch’s ailing health.

The series stars Brian Cox alongside Nicholas Braun, Kieran Culkin, Peter Friedman, Alan Ruck and Sarah Snook.

The latest season has packed in a few surprises of its own and has kept its viewers on their toes with surprise deaths, major betrayals, and a few sexy twists – culminating in what Decider’s Meghan O’Keefe has dubbed the “best installments in the show’s entire run.”

Succession Season 4 also happens to be Armstrong and the writers’ most ambitious season yet. Huge swings are made from the jump and every one of them lands with creativity, nuance, and grace,” O’Keefe wrote in her review.

All this excitement has left fans wondering when the fun will come to an end. Here’s everything you need to know about the Succession finale.

Succession is set to air its final episode on May 28. The episode is allegedly titled “With Eyes Open” and will be written by Mark Mylod. It has also been speculated that the episode will have a supersized runtime of 90 minutes.

Decider has reached out to HBO to confirm the speculation. They did not respond by the time of reporting.

The season premiered on March 26 and has been airing episodes every Sunday. According to the HBO schedule, the penultimate episode (which airs May 21) is titled “Church and State” and will be an hour and 16 minutes. Details about the final episode are not yet included on the schedule.

At the time of reporting, there are four more episodes of Succession left to air.

Unfortunately, there will not be a fifth season of Succession. Showrunner and creator Jesse Armstrong confirmed his choice to end the show with the fourth season in an interview with The New Yorker

Armstrong came to the decision with his writers, saying, “I got together with a few of my fellow-writers before we started the writing of Season 4, in about November, December, 2021, and I sort of said, ‘Look, I think this maybe should be it. But what do you think?'”

He continued, “And we played out various scenarios: We could do a couple of short seasons, or two more seasons. Or we could go on for ages and turn the show into something rather different, and be a more rangy, freewheeling kind of fun show, where there would be good weeks and bad weeks. Or we could do something a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong.”

Armstrong said, “And that was definitely always my preference. I went into the writing room for Season 4 sort of saying, ‘I think this is what we’re doing, but let’s also keep it open.’ I like operating the writing room by coming in with a sort of proposition, and then being genuinely open to alternative ways of going. And the decision to end solidified through the writing and even when we started filming: I said to the cast, ‘I’m not a hundred per cent sure, but I think this is it.’ Because I didn’t want to bullshit them, either.”
