There was no shortage of great moments in Succession‘s season four premiere, but one we can’t stop thinking about is, of course, between Tom and Greg.
Greg brings a date to Logan’s birthday party, and to no one’s surprise but his own, the move is ridiculed by Kerry, Logan’s “friend, assistant and advisor,” and Tom, the other half of the newly coined “disgusting brothers.”
While Kerry took issue with Bridget’s presence entirely, Tom’s points of concern were more related to her accessory of choice: a large handbag.
First, he calls the bag “ludicrously capacious” and then “monstrous” and “gargantuan.” He likens it to the kind of bag one might use to hold stolen money during a bank job and wonders if Bridget is keeping flat shoes for the subway inside the bag — because it’s that big.
It turns out that the specific bag was chosen intentionally — it needed to be the kind of handbag that super-elite, wealthy New Yorkers would find so tacky it may even be offensive. It seems they went directly to the source to find out what kind of bag that would be.
So that got us wondering: what is this bag? It gets a decent few seconds of screen time in the episode, at least long enough to identify the unmistakable checkered print synonymous with the luxury British fashion house Burberry.
That discovery was vital because it led us to the exact bag used in the episode, which, it turns out, is not so cheap and tacky after all. But that’s kind of the irony of the situation, isn’t it? Bridget’s handbag choice proves she may have money, but not enough to stop the people with more looking down on her anyway.
