They’re looking for a hero.
Subway is seeking a sandwich lover to legally change their first name to “Subway” for a lifetime of free food and beverages from America’s largest sandwich chain.
But don’t rush to change your name just yet — you have to apply to an actual contest.
Anyone interested in being referred to as “Subway” can sign up at SubwayNameChange.com between Aug. 1 at 9 a.m. ET and Aug. 4 at 11:59 p.m. ET.
The company has pledged to cover the winner’s $750 legal fees for the name change, “making it easy and effortless to become Subway and enjoy a lifetime of delicious subs.”
Subway the person will have four months to show Subway the company proof of the name change before they can claim the lifetime footlong prize.
Though, according to the fine print, free Subway “for life” equals $50,000 worth of gift cards.
The contest is open to anyone 18 and older in most states, besides Alabama and Nebraska, where you must be 19, and Mississippi, where you need to be 21.
According to the US Social Security Administration, Subway was not in the top 1,000 most popular baby names in the last century.
The contest comes as Subway continues its reinvention by introducing a collection of new Deli Hero subs in US restaurants earlier in the summer. The struggling company has been exploring a $10 billion sale.
