NextImg:Steve Cohen’s message to Mets amid ‘electric’ run: ‘Let’s keep this going!’

Steve Cohen wants more of the June Mets.

On Saturday afternoon, the Mets owner took to X to express his excitement over his team that’s in the midst of a scorching 16-6 month.

“There is something special happening at Citifield,” he wrote. “The players have come together and are playing for each other. The atmosphere is electric. Let’s keep this going !”

The Mets had a convincing 7-2 victory over the equally red-hot Astros — who are 15-8 this month — on Friday night.

The Amazin’s, after a 24-33 record at the end of May, have now gotten above .500 (40-39) as they head into their second game of the three-game series against Houston on Saturday afternoon.

The strong month, which has been highlighted by a seven-game winning streak and the start of the Grimace era, has put the Mets just a game back of the last National League wild-card spot.

In addition to rallying around the McDonald’s character, the Mets’ bond has come through with the support of infielder Jose Iglesias’ new song “OMG,” which the team embraced at a private event Thursday before his first live performance Friday night following the win.

At the London Series against the Phillies at the beginning of June, Cohen admitted the fanbase has seen worse after enduring a rough May.

“The fans, they love the Mets and they came all the way over here because they love the Mets and care about the Mets,” Cohen said. “They are in good spirits. … The fans have been through worse and trying to break that history. They are great and certainly are going to be here for the team.”

The Mets managed to get a split of the two-game series with the Phillies, who still lead the NL East, although things have turned sour with injuries to Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber.

Before the Mets’ win on Friday, president David Stearns said the recent hot streak has given the Mets to potentially be buyers at the July 30 trade deadline.

“We’ve given ourselves an opportunity,” Stearns said, “and we need to continue to run with it.”

“I think Steve has shown repeatedly that he is committed to investing the resources in the team that we need to compete,” Stearns said. “And certainly I think we’ll continue to do so.”
