The first rough patch of the Mets’ home opener came before the game even started.
And team owner Steve Cohen is acting fast to correct it.
The large, square, red-lettered on a white background patch added to the jersey sleeve Friday as part of a sponsorship deal with New York Presbyterian Hospital was lambasted by fans over the first hours after it was revealed.

Cohen said he and New York Presbyterian’s chief executive officer Steve Corwin agreed to change the patch via email.
“They’re Phillies colors,” Cohen said before the game. “He agreed and I agreed that it should be more Met-appropriate.”

Cohen declined to share any financial details of the partnership. It is the first year that MLB is allowing jersey patches as advertising.
“It was a complicated deal based on that and other assets,” Cohen said. “We have a great partner in New York Presbyterian. We’re excited by that.”
