NextImg:Sterling Shepard knows ‘dark, lonely’ recovery Aaron Rodgers is facing

Sterling Shepard believes he knows what comes next for Aaron Rodgers.

“It’s a tough road, man,’’ Shepard told The Post Wednesday after practice.

The Giants’ veteran wide receiver has been down that tough road.

He ruptured his Achilles tendon and came back to play for the Giants.

Rodgers, shockingly, suffered the same injury four plays into his Jets career.

“I know the pain he’s going through, having to deal with that and the recovery that’s ahead,’’ Shepard said. “Some dark, lonely times.

“It’s never good seeing a player go down.’’

The dark, lonely times consumed Shepard not too long ago.

He went down four days before Christmas as the Giants were winding down their dismal 2021 season.

He ruptured his left Achilles while running a route — no contact was involved — in the final two minutes of a 21-6 loss to the Cowboys at MetLife Stadium.

Shepard missed the last three games that season, and following surgery and extensive rehab, he was able to play in the 2022 opener, nine months after incurring the injury.

Shepard, 30, was watching the Jets and Bills on “Monday Night Football’’ with his uncle when Rodgers was tackled, briefly got to his feet and then collapsed onto the turf.

The image on the screen was vivid enough for Shepard, who feared it was a serious injury for the 39-year-old quarterback.

“I already knew it,’’ Shepard said. “When they slowed it down and I heard they said it was an ankle injury, the only thing I could think of when I saw the force was Achilles. That’s when I said to my uncle, ‘Nah, I don’t think it’s just his ankle.’

“If you look at the force and they slowed it down and you could sort of see his leg jiggle. That’s what it feels like, it feels like somebody just kicked you right in the back of the heel. I was praying it wasn’t that.’’

If he has any specific advice for Rodgers, this would be it:

“Surround yourself with good people,’’ Shepard said, “because you’re going to need people throughout that whole process.’’
