If you’re not visiting Decider for your movie recommendations (which you should be), Stephen King is another good source of movie night inspiration.
Fortunately, the prolific author announced his 10 favorite movies on X on Monday (Sept. 8), specifying that the list excludes the following titles that were adapted from his own literary works: Misery (1990), The Shawshank Redemption (1994), The Green Mile (1999), and Stand by Me (1986).
“In no particular order,” King named his top 10 movies, spanning the genres of romance, horror, Western, and drama and boasting the talents of actors like Richard Dreyfuss, Humphrey Bogart, Bill Murray, and Steve McQueen. In response to someone praising his “great list” of titles, King wrote, “Thanks, but there are so many others. We’re lucky moviegoers!”
King’s own work continues to inspire filmography, including the upcoming adaptation of The Running Man starring Glen Powell, and The Long Walk, which hits theaters on Friday, Sept. 12.
Of course, King’s work has also made its way to the small screen, including in the upcoming HBO Max IT prequel series, IT: Welcome to Derry, which premieres on Oct. 26.
